This week, Baltic Data Center, a leader in the management of data centers and information systems in the Baltic States, signed a contract for the acquisition of Internet services company Interdata. The acquisition of one of the leading providers of web hosting services in Lithuania will allow to strengthen Baltic Data Center's positions in the areas of provision of these and many other IT services.
From December, Interdata will operate as a subsidiary of Baltic Data Center. The company's current executives and other employees will continue to work in it, whereas the experience gained by both companies and the high professional competence of their specialists will enable to increase the quality of provided services and to offer new modern services.
MP Bank hf. Baltic Branch and law firm Lideika, Petrauskas, Valiūnas and Partners LAWIN acted as advisers in the acquisition of the company.
According to Saulius Markūnas, Director of Baltic Data Center, a company belonging to TEO LT, AB Group, web hosting services is one of the fastest growing IT areas, while Interdata's acquisition will allow not only to strengthen the existing competence, but also to make more efficient use of available technological resources.
"The consolidation processes ongoing on the IT market during this economic period allow to improve the quality of services, make more efficient use of available resources and thus enhance the whole country's competitiveness on the global IT services market", - S. Markūnas said.
Interdata's services are currently used by many Lithuanian online service leaders: the airline ticket selling website www.greitai.lt, the news portal www.15min.lt, the company's Plius portals www.autoplius.lt, www.domoplius.lt and many others. Following the acquisition of Interdata, the number of BDC's web hosting service users will double, reaching almost 5 thousand.
At international awards, Baltic Data Center has been repeatedly recognized as the best data center operator in Central and Eastern Europe. This year the company installed the first in the Baltic States liquid-cooled data center, distinguished by its environmental performance and energy savings. Last year, BDC set up and equipped the first in Lithuania underground data center facility, complying with the strictest security requirements and capable to protect hardware and data stored there against unwanted electromagnetic pulse even in the event of a nuclear explosion.
According to the data of IDC, an international IT market research company, global revenues from web hosting services are expected to roughly double over the next four years and in 2012 will amount to approximately 29 billion U.S. dollars. At the end of 2008, there were about 74 million active web sites in the world with the number growing annually by around 30 percent.
